AI-Assisted Diagnostics: A Diagnostic Approach to Using a Scan Tool
A webinar hosted by Motor Age Training & TST, sponsored by THINKCAR
Summary
In this webinar, we will demonstrate how to use the ThinkCar diagnostic scan tool to approach vehicle diagnostics in an efficient, logical, and professional manner.
Rather than simply retrieving diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), we will demonstrate a structured diagnostic process that begins with Generic OBD II and then progresses to the Enhanced/OE side of the scan tool when additional information or testing is required.
During the webinar, we will demonstrate:
- Using Generic OBD-II to establish an initial understanding of the vehicle’s condition.
- Accessing Enhanced/OE diagnostic information and vehicle-specific systems.
- Retrieving and interpreting diagnostic trouble codes.
- Using PID/live data to evaluate system operation and identify abnormal readings.
- Performing bi-directional controls and active tests to verify component operation.
- Using ECU coding and programming-related functions, when available.
- Performing maintenance and service resets.
- Applying scan-tool information as part of a complete diagnostic process rather than relying solely on DTCs.
